Route 12 Bridge Widening and Rehabilitation
Bridgeway Civil Constructors, Inc. is currently performing structural improvements to the Union Creek Bridge (Bridge No. 23-0134) and has completed rehabilitation for the Denverton Creek Bridge (Bridge No. 23-0136) along State Route 12 in Solano County, California.
The project included widening the existing bridge structures by approximately 3 feet on each side while maintaining and integrating with the existing bridge construction. Work included partial bridge demolition of abutments, wingwalls and bridge deck for construction of the new cast in place abutments, wing walls and bridge deck.
Bridge improvements included new California ST-75 bridge railings and end blocks, structural concrete, reinforcing steel, and associated excavation and backfill.
As part of the Union and Denverton Creek Bridge improvements, Bridgeway constructed a Temporary Creek Diversion System to facilitate construction within and adjacent to the active creek channel while maintaining environmental protection and site access. The system incorporated temporary cofferdams and dewatering measures to isolate the work area and allow construction of the bridge improvements in a controlled, dry environment. The TCDS included the installation and maintenance of upstream and downstream coffer dams, a fish and aquatic life passage, dewatering operations, vegetation clearing and grubbing, and coordination with state agencies and environmental requirements. The diversion system was designed and implemented to safely manage creek flows while minimizing impacts to the surrounding waterway and allowing the bridge construction to proceed.
The completed project provides widened and upgraded bridge structures with improved safety features and shoulder accommodations while preserving the functionality of the existing SR-12 corridor.
